Animating Kids #14: Steam Out of Ears

What You Will Learn

You will learn how to make a character blow steam out of its ears. This will require a wind-up, a shake, and alternating smoke cut-outs.

Though we use a clay face for this, this technique can be applied to just about any character you animate.

Why This Is Important

Mastering all sorts of emotions is necessary in animation. This emotion is extreme anger. The classic way of expressing this is steam coming out of ears; this is really mad.

This recipe employs some of the basic concepts from our Starter Kit such as wind-up, squash, blinking, and shake.

Using all these skills gives energy and dynamics needed to sell the audience on the fact that a piece of clay can be angry.
